The Bible Journey

1. Getting started

What it is. The Bible Journey gives you a daily reading plan, the King James Version (KJV) text, read-aloud, study notes and a calendar that shows how you are doing.

Put it on your home screen

• Android (Chrome): open the app link, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app (or Add to Home screen).
• iPhone (Safari): tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.

First time you open it

The app opens Genesis 1. The first time, it needs the internet to load the KJV (about 4 MB). It saves the whole Bible on your phone automatically. After that you can read with no internet at all.

The screen

Five tabs run along the bottom: Today, Bible, Plans, Study and Progress. The ⚙ button at the top right opens Settings.

2. Today

This is where you will spend most of your time. It shows Day 12 of 284, today's date, and how far through the plan you are (a percentage of the time, not of the reading).

Reading today's chapters

• Each reading has a tick box. Tick it when you have read it.
• Tap Open beside a reading to show that chapter in the Bible tab.
• Tap Mark Day Read to tick everything for the day at once. If everything is ticked, the button becomes Mark Unread.

Each reading is labelled Old Testament, Psalms or New Testament. A label such as New Testament, time 2 means you are on your second pass through that part. Extra reading marks books you added yourself.

Missed a day?

• If you fall behind, a note appears: “3 earlier days not finished.” Tap Catch up to jump to the first unfinished day.
• Use ◀ Prev day, Today and Next day ▶ to move between days. You can tick or untick any day, so nothing is ever lost.
• Days marked Rest day have no reading and never count as missed.

3. Bible and read aloud

Reading

Choose a book and chapter, then tap Open. Under the selectors you can change the Font (serif or sans), Size and Spacing. These settings are remembered.

Offline reading

The KJV saves itself the first time you read. Download KJV shows whether it is fully saved. If you ever see “KJV isn't saved on this device yet”, connect to the internet once and tap the Download button.

Read aloud

1. Open a chapter in the Bible tab (or tap Open beside a reading on Today).
2. Go to the Today tab and use the Read Aloud card: ▶ Play, ⏸ Pause, ■ Stop. Pressing Play after Pause carries on where you stopped.
3. Pick a speed from 0.75× to 1.5×.

It reads the chapter that is open, using your phone's own voice, and skips the verse numbers. Switch on Auto-play next chapter in Settings to keep going chapter after chapter.

4. Reading plans

The Plans tab lists your plans. The one in use shows In use. Tap Use on another plan to switch to it, or Edit to change it.

The plan you start with is Main Reading Plan: Genesis to Revelation, 20 September 2026 to 30 June 2027 (284 days), one book after another.

Making a new plan

Tap New Plan and set:

Tap Save Plan when you are happy. Cancel closes without saving. Delete removes a plan and its progress, and appears when you have more than one plan.

5. Mixed plans in detail

A Mixed plan puts Old Testament, Psalms and New Testament into every day, instead of finishing one book before starting the next.

How many times to read each part

Choose a number for each of Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. Use 0 for Psalms or Proverbs to leave them inside the Old Testament.

Read every part every day

This is switched on by default. The New Testament has 260 chapters and Psalms has 150, which is fewer than 284 days. So the app repeats a part as many times as needed for it to appear every day. In a plan of about 285 days, that means the New Testament twice and Psalms twice.

If you switch it off, each part is read exactly the number of times you set, and short parts skip some days.

What a day looks like

With the standard settings, day 1 is Genesis 1–3, Psalms 1–2 and Matthew 1–2. Day 2 is Genesis 4–6, Psalm 3 and Matthew 3–4. That is about 5 to 6 chapters a day.

Reading Psalms 5 times

Set Psalms to 5. You then read about 2 to 3 psalms a day, the whole book comes round roughly every 57 days, and Old and New Testament still appear every day. The load rises to about 7 chapters a day.

6. Study

Choose a study type: Book, Character, Topical, Chapter, Verse or Custom. A short hint tells you what to look for in each.

1. Give the study a title and, if you like, a finish by date.
2. Add the passages you will study. Choose a book and a chapter range, then tap ＋ Add passage(s), or tap Add whole book.
3. Tick each passage as you finish it. Open shows it in the Bible tab, and ✕ removes it.
4. Write your observations and application in Notes.

Ticks and passages save the moment you change them. Tap Save Study or Close to keep the title, date and notes you typed. Under Saved Studies you can reopen or delete any study, and each one shows its own progress, for example “1/4 passages (25%)”.

7. Progress

The top card shows the plan in use, readings done, completion percentage, days fully read, whether you are on track or behind, your current and longest streak, books finished and study passages read.

One square for each day of the plan. Tap any square to open that day and catch up.

Progress by book

Open Show all 66 books to see a bar for every book. Each chapter counts once, even if your plan repeats it.

Notes and highlights

A free notebook for prayers and thoughts. It saves as you type. Save Notes is there for reassurance.

Your streak counts days in a row with everything read. Rest days do not break it, and today does not break it until the day is over.

8. Settings and backup

Tap ⚙ at the top of any screen.

• Theme: system, light or dark.
• Font, Font size, Line spacing: how the Bible text looks.
• Audio speed and Auto-play next chapter.
• Help: opens this guide.
• Export backup / Import backup: see below.

Tap Save Settings to keep your changes.

Back up your progress

Everything (plans, ticks, notes and studies) is stored inside your phone's browser, not on a server. That keeps it private, but it also means clearing the browser's site data, or changing phones, would lose it.

1. Tap Export backup. A small file is saved to your phone.
2. On a new phone or after clearing data, open the app, go to Settings and tap Import backup, then choose that file.

9. Tips and problems

Good habits

• Tick as you read, then check Progress once a week.
• If a day goes wrong, use Catch up instead of skipping it.
• Use rest days for busy days such as Sunday, so the plan stays fair.

If something is not working

Questions

Which Bible is it? The King James Version, which is public domain.

Does it need the internet? Only the first time you open it. After that it works offline.

Can I use it on two phones? Yes, but each phone keeps its own progress. Use Export and Import to move it across.
